Meditating in Nature

Three River

Paralell Trip

Time: April-October

I still have deepfeelings for Lijiang. Although he ancient city of Lijiang is no longer attractive due to its over-commercialization. However, the surrounding mountains are still amazing. My memories can still be traced back to more than ten years ago. We have been on the Tiger Leaping Gorge, Haba Snow Mountain, Wenhai, Yulong Snow Mountain Base Camp, visited Locke’s former residence, Yuhu Village, and learned about Naxi ancient music, a family of traditional Chinese medicine and the Shixiu culture and so on. We have also arranged foreign trekking groups to walk along the former residence of Locke and learn about the story of the Herland in the matriarchal society by the Luhu Lake. All of these experiences have left us such a rich and mysterious impression of the Naxi culture.

And a bonus is that my friend has opened a new vegetarian restaurant in Baisha. I remember that every time I came back from abroad, I always felt that the domestic vegetarian restaurants offer too few types of food and are always the same dishes. And then, a friend of mine decided to open a vegetarian restaurant, Lijiang Baisha Bili Vegetarian Kitchen, where they offer new choices of vegetarian food which is just what I was longing for. The owner Bella, became vegetarian during the 2020 epidemic quite suddenly. In 2021, she came to the ancient town of Baisha, Lijiang, and also quite suddenly she opened her own vegetarian restaurant. The food they make is neither Chinese nor Western; or better say, it is both Chinese and Western. They use Baisha's local vegetable products and cook in simple ways with a happy heart. Honing their self-awareness while cooking. The life here is great, the ingredients are sweet, the snow-capped mountains are beautiful, and the animals are very friendly. The neighbors are simple and kind, and the customers are very nice. I hope that more people will eat more vegetarian food, which will benefit the earth, our body and our mind.

Day 1:

We came to Baisha, the back yard of the Naxi Kingdom, to see the story of this ancient Naxi culture with our own eyes: the Naxi frescoes, Naxi Dongba sacrificial culture, Naxi ancient music performances, a family of herbal medicine and traditional Chinese medicine on the Yulong Snow Mountain in Naxi… Along the Jade Village we hiked all the way to the former residence of Locke in Yuhu Village. We also have the choice to ride horses or hike to the base camp of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, taste Naxi hot pot, and stay at a meditation retreat guesthouse in Shuhe Ancient Town at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain at night.

Day 2:

From Yushui Village, we hike or take a ride from Baisha to Wenhai. Wenhai is a beautiful plateau lake at the foot of Yulong Snow Mountain, surrounded by cattle and sheep, and the scenery of cattles and sheep eating in the windy grassland is very poetic. That’s where the Yi and Naxi villages locate. Among them, the Yi people also have their sacrifice to Bimo. There are salmon farms, high-end bed and breakfasts and eco-hotels, so you can enjoy the delicious food and scenery.

Day 3:

Trekking from Wenhai to Shanghai Village, then to Longpan and Tiger Leaping Gorge, Ethnic Village to Shanghai Village.

We will hike in the dense forest, we will explore a cave, the camp is next to the local family, and the village is surrounded by mist.

First we will take a ride to the bridge and then start hiking, take the horse onto the hill, which will be the most challenging section. Here, we will officially enter the canyon, descending a few kilometers across all its majestic and steep limestone cliffs to the raging rapids of the Jinsha River below. We will continue to walk along the path at a comfortable pace and slowly feel the gorge. We will stay in the famous Tea Horse Inn halfway up the mountain, where we can enjoy the view from the terrace while practicing yoga.

Day 4:

The bottom of Tiger Leaping Gorge.

We will hike along the path carved in the cliffs, cross the waterfall, and pass a temple dedicated to the Buddhist Guanyin Bodhisattva. We will continue to walk down the road, and then go down to the bottom of the canyon. We will stand on the narrowest boulder of the canyon. The river is surging and we marvel at its magnificence. On our way by car along the Lancang River, we will pass the Naxi village of Sanba and Tibetan villages. This area is the most beautiful place on the Yangtze River. We will arrive at Haba, the most beautiful village under Haba Snow Mountain. We will stay at Haba Snow Mountain Inn.

Day 5:

Hike to the Haba Village to visit ethnic minority tribes.

We will walk for 4-5 hours in Haba Village and visit 5 villages of different ethnic groups, including: Yi, Muslim, Naxi, and Tibetan tribes. After returning, we will have lunch with their family and return to Haba Snow Mountain Inn. Haba Snow Mountain Accommodation provides: Cloud Inn.

Day 6:

We will take a ride to worship the Baishuitai of Dongba and finally leave for Shangri-La Airport.

Long-distance hiking difficulty level: Medium level

Duration: 6 days/5 nights

Group size: 2-8 people.
